Day and night blinds are an extremely popular style of blind, also referred to as ‘vision blinds’ or ‘twist blinds’. Day and night blinds give ultimate control over light balance while still allowing you to enjoy the view from your windows. Arguably more modern and stylish than vertical or venetian blinds, which also provide more control over light levels, the sliding fabric panels allow you to choose how much light enters your room. With almost 100 styles to choose from there are colours, prints or metallics to suit any home. Visit our blinds showroom in Barnsley or book a free at home appointment to view our samples.

What is a Day and Night Blind?
Day and night blinds are a special type of blind with a double layer of fabric that goes up and down the back of a roller tube. With alternating strips of a solid, opaque colour which loops around from the tube at the top, under the bottom bar and back up to the top – this gives the appearance of two layers of fabric.
Visually, this creates a horizontal striped effect, with two different material textures, one being opaque and the other being a solid block colour. Day or night, this blind is a great everyday option for your home.
Although similar, it is important to remember that night and day blinds and roller blinds are sisters, not twins. The main functional difference between them is that roller blinds roll up and down around a tube – but day and night blinds are double-layered and roll right around in a continuous loop.
They were primarily invented to allow for optimal light control which can enhance your daily routine and make each day effortless. They do this by angling the sun’s rays so that you can get just enough light into a room without having to move around a room to get the sun out of your eyes – particularly beneficial for office environments.
What are Vision Blinds & Zebra Blinds?
Vision blinds and Zebra blinds are other common names for day and night blinds. Also called Twist or Duo blinds they ensure privacy while still allowing light to enter a room making them a very popular choice for many households. They have horizontal strips of sheer material in a two layer blind, creating layers that can be adjusted according to how much light and privacy you want in your room.
Day and night blinds are stylish, modern and look brilliant in any room of the house, from living rooms to conservatories to bathrooms and bedrooms.
Not only is the mechanism of these blinds contemporary, but they have the look to match. We have a massive range of different patterns and colours of day and night blinds available from leading brands including Louvolite. How Do Day and Night Blinds Work?
As mentioned above, day and night window coverings offer a flexible way to control light and privacy levels throughout the day. They work by layering opaque and translucent horizontal stripes, which can be adjusted to create different effects.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown of how they work:
Structure:
Day and night blinds are made up of two layers of fabric. Each layer has alternating stripes: one is transparent or semi-transparent (day), and the other is opaque (night). These two layers move independently of each other.
Operation:
The blinds are operated using a pull cord, chain, or sometimes via a remote if they’re motorised. As you adjust the blinds, the opaque and transparent stripes move past each other.
Light Control:
When the opaque stripes on both layers align, they block out light, mimicking the effect of traditional blinds. When the opaque stripe on one layer aligns with the transparent stripe on the other, they allow light to filter through.
Privacy Control:
By adjusting the alignment of the stripes, you can also control your level of privacy. For example, you can align the opaque stripes to block views into your home or office or align the transparent stripes to allow you to see out.
The Benefits of a Day and Night Blind
Day and night blinds offer many benefits that make them a popular choice for many homes and offices. Here are some of their advantages:
Light Control:
The primary advantage of day and night blinds is their ability to flexibly control light. They allow you to control the amount of light that enters a room with great precision. You can adjust the blinds to allow full light, dim light, or block out light completely, depending on the alignment of the translucent and opaque stripes.
Privacy Control:
Along with light control, these blinds also provide adjustable levels of privacy. You can align the stripes to either see out while restricting the view into your home or office or vice versa.
Energy Efficiency:
By controlling the amount of sunlight that enters a room, day and night blinds can help to maintain the room’s temperature. This can contribute to energy efficiency by reducing the need for heating or cooling.
Stylish and Modern Look:
Day and night blinds have a sleek, modern design that can complement a wide range of interior styles. They can add a touch of elegance to any room.
Easy to Operate:
These blinds are typically easy to operate, either with a pull cord, chain or in some cases, a remote control if they are motorised.
Durability:
Day and night blinds are often made from durable materials that are designed to last for a long time, even with regular use.
Easy to Maintain:
These blinds are generally easy to clean and maintain. Regular dusting and occasional spot cleaning are usually all that’s needed to keep them looking their best.
Variety of Options:
Day and night blinds come in a variety of colours, materials, and designs, allowing you to choose the perfect blinds to match your décor.
Suitable for Various Rooms:
These blinds can be a great choice for any room, including bedrooms for their light-blocking capabilities, living rooms for their aesthetic appeal, and offices for their privacy control.
FAQs
How do you take down day and night blinds?
Taking down day and night blinds is typically a straightforward process. Here are the basic steps:
Raise the Blinds: Fully raise the blinds using the control cord or chain.
Loosen the Blinds: Depending on the design, there may be small clips holding the blinds in place within the brackets. If there are, gently push them open.
Remove the Blinds: Carefully lift the blinds out of the brackets. It’s usually easiest to do one side first, then the other.
Remove the Brackets: If you’re also removing the brackets, unscrew them from the wall or window frame. Be sure to keep track of any screws or other hardware in case you need them later.
Remember, the exact method may vary slightly depending on the design of your blinds, so always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions if you’re unsure.
Are day and night blinds good for living rooms?
Day and night blinds can be a great choice for living rooms for several reasons: they are good for controlling brightness & privacy levels, have a sleek and modern design, aid energy efficiency of the room to regulate temperature, saving heating and cooling costs, and easy maintenance.
Can you see through a day and night blind?
Yes, you can see through day and night blinds when the transparent or semi-transparent stripes align. However, when the opaque stripes align, they block the view. The level of visibility depends on the blinds’ adjustment, providing both privacy and light control.
